‘You should always bring your own food on planes – flight attendants are sick of hearing you complain’

PLANE meals can be disappointing to say the least, especially if you’re a fussy eater.

On almost every flight I work on, there’ll be loads of passengers who grimace when they hear what they’re going to be eating for their lunch or dinner.

I’m sick of hearing your complaints about the food – especially if you haven’t planned ahead

Some will even ask us if we have anything else, to which the answer is always, “sorry, no”.

You can’t expect us to have excess food on board. The plane is tiny, we don’t have a kitchen anywhere that we can use to knock up a brand new dish just for you.

Once we’re in the air, we have exactly what we need and not a whole lot more.

This is why I would always recommend bringing your own food on board, especially if it’s a long haul journey.

It means you’re not going to get hungry during the trip and it means I don’t have to listen to you complaining about the food – again.

It’s one of the most annoying parts of my job by a long distance.

I’ve been a flight attendant for a decade now and I’m seriously over it.

Of course the food isn’t going to be great, you’re on a plane, it was made in a factory, not a kitchen by a chef.

It’s one of the compromises you have to make when flying from one country to another – you have to accept that the food won’t be of the greatest quality.

So take something you like – a nice sandwich; a tupperware container with some leftovers in it – whatever you like.

Just keep that in your bag so you know that you’re not going to be completely disappointed by your dining options on board.

This especially applies to people with allergies and dietary requirements.

I don’t understand how these people don’t know by now to order their food in advance, but it seems like every flight there are people with nut allergies or dairy intolerances, who just expect us to have meals especially made for them.

We can have those meals, but it’s up to you to let us know at least 48 hours before you fly.

Even so, we still don’t get everything right, so it’s best for you to be prepared.

The worst that can happen is you’ll enjoy the meal on board and then have a snack prepared for later on, or you can enjoy twice as much food during your flight.

One of the easiest ways to bring food on board is in the form of a cup of noodles.

We’re more than happy to fill them up with hot water for you if you want us to – you just need to ask.

We love passengers who take care of themselves and plan ahead because it just makes our lives much easier.

We can focus on keeping you all nice and safe, without having to track down a meal without broccoli in it because you’re a fussy eater.

Meanwhile, this is how to improve the flavour of your plane meals.

And this is why you should always bring snacks on board.
