SUN RACING’s tipping maestro Templegate is here with his Placepot picks for the first day of the Ebor meeting at York.
Tote have boosted the bank for the first day of York to £250,000 – and that’s a minimum!
The Placepot is a bet where you select a horse to be placed in the FIRST SIX races of any meeting.
You can pick more than one horse in a race – you just multiply the number of selections in each race to calculate your total stake.
Templegate’s Wednesday Placepot picks
LEG 1: Korker, JM Jungle
KORKER looked to be coming to the boil when a good second at Sandown last time. He broke smartly, which hasn’t always been the case, but was put in front a little too soon and was mugged in the final few yards. He has winning form over this course and distance and his stall seven draw should be fine under Clifford Lee.
JM JUNGLE got the job done well in decent company at Goodwood 20 days ago. He handles any ground and a 5lb rise in the weights may not put the brakes on.
LEG 2: Ballymount Bay
BALLYMOUNT BOY sets the clear standard for trainer Adrian Keatley (below) after being beaten just a length in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last time. The form has been franked by the winner Vandeek taking the Group 1 Prix Morny in France last time. He missed the break on the South Downs before coming home with a real rattle. That suggests this step up in distance will bring some improvement and he’s the one to beat.
LEG 3: Continuous
Most read in Horse Racing
CONTINUOUS came back to his best when second at Royal Ascot last time and ran well on his last visit to York when a close-up third in May’s Dante. The mount of Ryan Moore is the one horse in the field who is at his best over the 1m4f trip and he acts on any ground.
LEG 4: Mostahdaf
MOSTAHDAF was so impressive when winning the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot last time. The Team Gosden horse enjoyed dropping to this trip last time. He cruised past his rivals to win going away – clocking a fast time in the process. He will have to at least match that form but he’s been given a nice rest ahead of this assignment and he has relatively few miles on the clock for his age.
LEG 5: Grappa Nonino, Aztec Empire
GRAPPA NONINO can take this red-hot handicap. He is trained by a living legend in Dermot Weld who has only had one other runner in this contest and they won back in 2011. In-form Saffie Osborne takes the ride on this four-year-old who weaved his way past 20 rivals to score at The Curragh 10 days ago. He is out quickly under a 5lb penalty before his revised higher mark kicks in.
AZTEC EMPIRE was a solid third at Newbury behind Sweet William last time when seeing out this distance well. He likes decent ground and is back from the same handicap mark with a chance.
LEG 6: Pillow Talk, Radio Goo Goo
PILLOW TALK has been first and second in Listed company over this course and distance. Karl Burke’s filly ran her best race of the season when a tight third at Pontefract last time. She has a decent draw and will be hard to keep out of the frame.
RADIO GOO GOO was fourth in a big Royal Ascot handicap the last time she tackled this distance. She won over 6f here in June and her liking for the track gives her place prospects with Oisin Murphy taking over on board.
