Manchester United will be looking to make it four consecutive wins and jump up to fifth in the Premier League on Monday evening when they face Newcastle at St James’ Park.
Ralf Rangnick’s side will have the chance to overtake both West Ham and Spurs into the top five when they face a struggling Newcastle side.
United currently have three games in hand on fourth-placed Arsenal after the postponements of their last two fixtures, with a win on Monday taking the Reds just five points behind the Gunners.
The meeting between the two sides earlier in the season produced a memorable 4-1 United win with Cristiano Ronaldo grabbing two goals in his first game back at United, and the Portugal international will be hoping for similar fortune in the reverse fixture.
Ahead of the clash on Tyneside, Rangnick revealed that he could have a fully-fit side to choose from bar the injured Paul Pogba, with Raphael Varane, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Aaron Wan-Bissaka all set to return to the matchday squad.
With United not affected by the busy Christmas schedule fitness-wise, they should be able to field their strongest XI, but the bench may be the best option for the returning players with Rangnick not looking to risk further injury by rushing them back.
So, what line-up will Rangnick select? And what could the final score be?
We used FIFA 22 to get a score prediction for Newcastle vs Man United on Monday and this is what happened …
Newcastle vs Man United score predicted by FIFA 22 simulation
We used kick-off mode in FIFA 22, but didn’t select a team to control, we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a score prediction.
We predict that the Magpies could set up in a 4-5-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Dubravka; Murphy, Schar, Lascelles, Ritchie; Almiron, Longstaff, Shelvey, Joelinton, Saint-Maximin; Wilson.
We then predict that United could set up in their 4-2-2-2 formation, with their line-up as follows: De Gea; Dalot, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles; Fred, McTominay; Fernandes, Sancho; Ronaldo, Rashford.
United took the lead within the first five minutes through Ronaldo’s well-taken finish.
After receiving the ball just outside the box, Ronaldo slipped Marcus Rashford in on goal as the 36-year-old continued his run forward.
Ronaldo’s powerful sprint past Jamaal Lascelles was then found by Rashford who chose to pass rather than shoot, and the Portugal international fired a first-time effort into the top corner.
Rashford then got himself on the scoresheet as United doubled their lead just before the 10-minute mark.
After setting up Ronaldo for United’s first, the roles were reversed for the second, this time Ronaldo finding Rashford with a long-ball over the Newcastle back-line.
The pass dropped perfectly into the stride of the Englishman, and his driven effort across goal nestled into the bottom corner to put the Magpies in a difficult position.
Incredibly, it was three goals to the good for United after just 20 minutes, with Bruno Fernandes scoring from the spot.
Rashford was causing all sorts of problems to Eddie Howe’s defence, and the forward won United a penalty when he invited the challenge from Fabian Schar before tapping the ball past the defender and being brought down inside the box.
Fernandes stepped up to take the resulting penalty, and the midfielder kept the ‘keeper rooted to the middle as United entered the break 3-0 up.
Cavani made his return in the 55th-minute when he was brought on in place of Marcus Rashford, but after a late challenge in the 70th minute, the Uruguayan was shown a red card.
After United fell to 10 men, the pressure from Newcastle was relentless as some big chances went begging.
Despite Callum Wilson’s late goal, it was only a consolation as United claimed three points.
