UFC London: Brit Tom Aspinall ‘doesn’t give a s**t’ about potential title eliminator fight with win over Curtis Blaydes

TOM ASPINALL doesn’t “give a s**t” about what the future holds for him if he’s victorious this weekend – despite being on the cusp of mixing it with the heavyweight division’s elite.

The Wigan warrior returns to the octagon on Saturday night against veteran heavyweight Curtis Blaydes in the main event of UFC London.

Aspinall, 29, has blown away all comers in his brief stint in mixed martial arts premier promotion in record time – registering five wins in a mere 14 minutes and 24 seconds.

Victory over the No.4-ranked Blaydes will put the Brit on course for a potential title eliminator, although the humble Team Kabon standout is refusing to think about anything other than the task at hand.

Aspinall said: “I will take it as it comes. The same way as I do everything else.

“You can’t guarantee the future, can you? You can’t guarantee what’s going to happen.

“I will cross that bridge when I come to it. But until then, I’m fighting Curtis on Saturday and that’s all I’m bothered about.

“So please, I would appreciate it if no one else would ask me about fights because I don’t give a s**t about any other fights. I’m interested in this fight only.”

Aspinall has shown the hand speed and footwork of a lightweight in his five octagon triumphs – which have forced the big dogs in the heavyweight division to take notice.

But he’s adamant his best is yet to come, saying: “I just have so much that I’ve not shown.

“And people don’t know what to expect. Nobody’s got no idea. Not Curtis or anyone else in the heavyweight division doesn’t know what I bring to the table because I’ve not shown it yet.

“I’ve shown ten per cent of my game. Because my octagon time has been short, no one has really seen what I can really do.

“I have so much that nobody knows about – which is a massive advantage to me.”

Aspinall is the bookies’ favourite to have his hand raised in his second consecutive headline spot at The O2, although he’s perplexed by the oddsmakers’ assessment of the fight.

He said: “This is my sixth UFC fight and I believe this is Curtis’ 17th or 18th UFC fight.

“He has been in the top seven in the world for the last five years. I have just broken into the top ten.

“And he’s beaten everybody apart from the two biggest punchers in the decision.

“His record speaks for itself and I think I’ve still got a lot of work to do. I don’t think I’ve done that much. I think he’s done a lot more than me.”
