Tinder reveals 51% of Gen Z singles want a relationship this cuffing season

Cuffing season is the time of the year when the carefree singledom of summer becomes less attractive, and people look to couple up ready for winter.

Daters eschew holidays and festivals with friends for cuddling up on the sofa with their partner, exchanging presents at Christmas, and not having to tell aunties and uncles that they’re flying solo during the holidays.

‘Settling down’ may be considered something older people are more prone to, but new stats from Tinder show that the younger generation are keen to cuff too.

New research from the dating app revealed that over 40% of Gen Z dated more this summer than last, and as we head into cuffing season, they intend to keep this up.

Over half of Gen Z (51%) are looking for a relationship, while just 9% want to be single.

The rest preferred casual dating or making friends and seeing where things go.

Many responded that they were after a long-term partner like Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes (35%), while 13% are hoping to move away from the friend zone a la Jennifer Aniston & David Schwimmer.

Interestingly, the data showed that most Zoomer daters wanted to get to know people on a deeper level this autumn, and that looks factored less into their decisions than shared interests, political views, and a shared sense of humour.

If you’re ready to get cuffed, we have expert tips on how to change up your profile for maximum matching.

Do ensure, though, that you’re in it for the right reasons and not settling for whatever comes your way.

While not every relationship needs to be long-term, it’s not fair to string someone along for the winter if you know you’ll have the itch to be single come spring next year.

A spooning partner as the nights draw in seems like an attractive prospect, but you also want to ensure you’re compatible and on the same page about where things are going.
