If you’re looking for a perfect day out at the seaside it seems you could do worse than ask the eldest member of your family for a recommendation.
We might be in December but that won’t stop us Brits braving the cold for a brisk walk to work off those Christmas calories.
And one town in Suffolk is the perfect place – even if it’s apparently full of old people.

But all that life experience means they know a good place to live when they see one.
As a survey this month by consumer magazine Which? found its readers were glowing in praise for the East Anglian town.
They gave it an overall satisfaction rating of 84%, and it was given a score of five out of five for scenery and also for the peace and quiet it offers visitors.
It also scored four out of five for its beach, attractions and value for money.
Only the Devon town of Dartmouth and the Cornish village of St Mawes scored better in the whole country.

And as both are nowhere near London they aren’t really an option for a day out or even a weekend away unless you love spending eight or nine hours in car over the course of a weekend.
Southwold on the other hand is less than two hours from parts of East London.
So just about doable for a day out and within easy reach for a weekend away for anyone in London.
So what’s the town like?
If Southend, Blackpool or Great Yarmouth is where you picture when you think of a typical seaside resort, Southwold is very different to the image in your head.
It is really a market town which has the added bonus of being by the sea.
It’s high street is full of independent shops, galleries and coffee shops. There’s a butchers, a bakery and designer clothes shops. You could actually have a pretty good day out without ever getting to the seafront.
But we’d recommend you make the effort as you’ll find a lovely beach lined with colourful beach huts and a pretty pier which has shops, amusements and places to get a bite to eat,
Overlooking the seafront is the town’s lighthouse and adjacent to it is the famous Adnams Brewery, where tours can be booked.
The town is also home to the Latitude music festival.
Though it had to be cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, big name acts such as Lewis Capaldi, Snow Patrol and Bastille have already been signed up for 2021’s return.
And if you fancy making a weekend of it, just down the coast is another beautiful seaside town, Aldeburgh.
It came fourth in the Which? survey, with a satisfaction rating of 83%.
There must be something about the Suffolk coast then that makes it special – whatever your age.
