Red Arrows 2022 schedule with every display, flight and airshow appearance including the one closest to London

For plane enthusiasts, the approaching summer means one thing: the return of airshows. Whether its a national show, local display or official royal fly past appearances featuring famous planes continue to draw huge crowds – at least until the pandemic, that is. This year will be the first time the airshow season can get underway as planned since 2019, and there is a packed calendar to say the least.

Probably the most well-known air displays are carried out by the Red Arrows, or Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team. Their iconic Diamond Nine formation combined with red, white and blue smoke makes them the perfect sight for families, royals and individuals alike.

All pilots of the Red Arrows have seen front-line action and the group is notoriously difficult to get in to. Each year the squadron train from the end of the previous season, generally September, through until mid-March – right before they embark on their first displays. Quite a tight turnaround!

The Red Arrows do some of the best aircraft stunts in the world

If you want to see the Red Arrows but don’t want to commit to a full airshow, your best option is to travel to a nearby vantage point. The easiest appearance to get to for Londoners this year is in Headcorn for the Battle of Britain Airshow in June. You can reach Headcorn in Kent in just one-and-a-half hours in the car from Central London, or just 55 minutes using public transport.

But you could also easily travel to spot the red diamond at Goodwood race course, Folkestone or Silverstone. It takes just under two hours from the middle of London to get to Silverstone or Goodwood, and around 1 hr 45 to drive to Folkestone. But wherever you go and however you get there, bear in mind there will be long queues of traffic on airshow day!

2022 marks the Hawk-jets’ 58th season of displays, and the team have already completed 5,000 different appearances. So as these daredevil pilots prepare to jet off once more, MyLondon has collated every planned appearance for the Red Arrows this season.
