P&O Ferries has suspended all of their services for the rest of the week – and told passengers to find alternative routes themselves.

All but one of their ferries has been prevented from running since last month, when the company made nearly 800 of their staff redundant without notice.

Despite hopes to resume services this weekend, the company has announced this won’t be possible.

They wrote on Twitter: “All P&O Ferries Passenger Services are suspended this weekend.

“For travel 8/9/10th April please re-book directly with another operator before arriving at the port. DFDS will not be able to transfer P&O customers onto their services.”

However, they then updated that they would not be able to help passengers who had booked with them.

They wrote: “It is no longer possible for us to arrange travel via an alternative operator on this route.

“For essential travel, customers are advised to seek alternatives themselves.”

DFDS ferries said they are not be accepting anymore P&O customers, with passengers warned not to travel to the port unless they had booked in advance.

DFDS director of capacity, Chris Parker, said it was “running the ferries as fast as we can”.

He said: “We’re running the ferries as fast as we can, we’ve added on extra sailings this weekend and we’ve increased the passenger capacity as well, so we’re trying to be part of the solution here.”

DFDS has more than 40,000 passengers booked on its services from Dover this weekend – a 50 per cent increase on last weekend.

But It will not take these passengers over the “peak weekend”.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast Mr Parker said: “We cannot take a full load of our own passengers and then have more passengers from P&O, we simply don’t have the capacity.

“We took the decision that we would be better off to focus on our own passengers, and not disappoint P&O passengers arriving at the port.”

Passengers heading to the port are being advised to leave “plenty of extra time”.

National Highways said: “All drivers planning to travel in or through Kent should plan ahead, follow diversion signs, check before they travel and leave plenty of extra time for their journey.”

Brit holidaymakers previously vowed to “never step foot on a P&O ferry again” after the company’s “vicious” sacking of 800 crew members.

One person said on social media: “I’ve just cancelled my trip in August and I’ll never use them again.

“Seeing how they have treated their staff and the inexperienced replacements, I won’t touch them with a barge pole. It’s not just us, there’s others too!”

P&O ferries dock at multiple European ports including Belgium, France, Netherlands, Italy, and Germany.

On its website it boasts carrying £10 million passengers every year as well as 1.6 million cars, and 2.2 million freight units.

The suspension of the services has resulted in nine-hour queues across Dover, with drivers being stuck on the roads.

And Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said yesterday the Insolvency Service has launched a criminal and civil investigation into the sackings.
