Orioles vs. Blue Jays prop picks and odds: Expect a solid effort from Kremer

The Toronto Blue Jays have a chance to finish a series sweep and improve their wild-card seeding with a win over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.

The pregame narrative: Dean Kremer has been getting deeper and deeper into games recently, the same could be said for Alek Manoah — and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is well positioned to produce at the plate.

Check out our Orioles vs. Blue Jays prop picks for September 18.

Orioles vs. Blue Jays prop picks

Best bet: Dean Kremer over 15.5 outs (-108)

Although backing starters going up against the Blue Jays is rarely the wisest tactic, this line doesn’t ask much of Kremer.

The 26-year-old just has to pitch into the sixth inning to cash this bet, and he’s been doing that consistently all season. Kremer has cleared this in 11 of his 17 starts, and his ability to go deep into games has improved over time.

Time Period Outs/Appearance
2021 12.4
First half of 2022 15.6
Second half of 2022 17.4

Kremer’s boost in efficiency has coincided with a change in approach. In recent months he seems to be mixing his pitches better, relying less on the fastball and cutter while incorporating a sinker to help get quick groundball outs.

When he faced the Blue Jays last, on September 7, he kept them off balance by throwing each of his five pitches at least 10% of the time. That led to 5.1 innings with just two earned runs against.

A similar result could be in order on Sunday.

Key stat: Kremer has provided 16 or more outs in six of his last seven outings — including one against the Blue Jays.

Quick picks

Guerrero Jr. over 1.5 bases (-106): Although we like Kremer to have a serviceable day overall, Guerrero looks like a hitter who’s likely to get to him based on their history.

The first baseman has taken the right-hander deep three times in 12 plate appearances, and while he’s not red-hot at the moment he is in the midst of an 11-game hitting streak and came out of a home-run slump in dramatic fashion on Wednesday.

Manoah over 18.5 outs (+114): For most starters, pitching into the seventh inning is an unfair expectation. That hasn’t been the case for Manoah recently, though.

He’s hit this over in four consecutive starts, including an eight-inning gem against the Orioles on September 7. Current Baltimore hitters have a batting average of just .193 against Manoah over 129 plate appearances, so we expect the big right-hander to thrive — and go deep — on Sunday
