Nissan revealed three wild electric car concepts


The Japanese brand, best known for its SUVs and utes, has debuted three head-turning new vehicles that showcase its future.

Nissan is set to spend more than $24 billion in the next five years as it looks to energise its entire range.

This is part of the brand’s commitment to launch 23 electrified models – including 15 fully electric vehicles – by 2030.

The Japanese brand has revealed three wild electric concepts that could be the core of its future range.

First is a rough-and-tumble electric ute concept called the Nissan Surf-Out.

The rugged off-roader is designed to showcase what the brand’s future workhorse could be.

It has all-terrain ability that allows the user to go anywhere in comfort and style.

The all-wheel drive ute has a low and flat cargo area and has plenty of power outlets to help you charge and power your appliances when you set up camp.

Next is a head-turning new convertible performance car dubbed the Nissan Max-Out.

The futuristic wedge-shaped concept will focus on the driving experience, with a low centre of gravity and a lightweight structure to enhance its cornering and dynamic driving ability.

The two-seater also showcases a unique seating layout that allows for the passenger seat to be folded directly into the floor to create more space for solo drives.

The last of the future concepts is the Nissan Hang-Out.

This compact SUV showcases the cabin of the future as the company makes the transition to autonomous driving.

The Hang-Out has a low, flat floor and is designed to reduce vibrations and jolts that cause motion sickness when working in the car.

Nissan likens the interior to a living room, as it is quiet and comfortable with theatre-like seats.

These concepts aren’t likely to enter production anytime soon in their current form, but it shows the company’s future direction as it powers up its zero emissions cars.

Nissan executive, Ashwani Gupta says: “We are proud of our long track record of innovation, and of our role in delivering the EV revolution. With our new ambition, we continue to take the lead in accelerating the natural shift to EVs by creating customer pull through an attractive proposition by driving excitement, enabling adoption and creating a cleaner world.”

By 2030 the company wants 75 per cent of its sales to be fully electric in Europe, 55 per cent in Japan and 40 per cent in China and the US.
