The neighbour also refused to charge their PHEV at a supermarket just five minutes away.

A Reddit user has asked other motorists if they were in the wrong for not moving

In the post uploaded to Reddit, the driver asked whether they were wrong to refuse to move their motor.

The said: “UK here, living on a street with no off-street private driveways, limited on-street parking.

“My next-door neighbour has bought a new PHEV car today. He leaves for work at 6am, gets home at 8pm by which time all of the limited parking spaces have been taken.

“He has lived here for 10 years. He knows parking is an issue and usually has to park a few streets away when he gets home.

“There is also fast charging point at a supermarket 5 minutes away.”

But the neighbour couldn’t be bothered to charge away from home, so came knocking.

The Reddit user continued: “He knocked on when he got home and asked if I would move my car to somewhere else so he could charge his.

“I had a feeling this would happen when he first told me he was getting a PHEV.

“I refused because frankly, I didn’t want to set a precedence and he really should have known, given his work patterns and living here for this long, that there was little hope of ever getting a spot outside his house to charge.

“I asked him if he knew about the fast charger at the supermarket, he said he did but wanted to charge at home.

“He was taken aback with my refusal and stormed off.”

Everybody was on the Reddit user’s side in the comments.

“He bought the car, and he should have known what he was getting himself into.”

Ursula2071 said: “What is OP going to do? Become a “placeholder” for the neighbour and then be inconvenienced every night by having to move?”

While Compensate1995 said: “You took the spot and now it’s yours.

“He knowingly bought the house and then the car afterwards. He should have considered those factors upon making such a crucial decision.”
