Micah Richards trolls Gary Lineker as Ferran Torres lands in Barcelona and Man City kid shines – Renuka Odedra

Welcome to the latest edition of the City Is Ours daily round-up, where we take a look at some of the best Manchester City stories you might have missed.

City stormed to a 6-3 win over Leicester City on Boxing Day and one former Blues hero took particular pleasure in the game.

Ferran Torres has landed in Spain to undergo his medical ahead of joining Barcelona – potentially prompting a fire sale at the Catalan club.

Meanwhile, Kevin Phillips has been enjoying the performances of a City loanee at his former club Sunderland.

Ferran Torres arrival set to cause Barcelona chaos

Ferran Torres is close to completing his move from City to Barcelona, with a medical set to take place on Monday. Just mind that broken foot, Ferran!

But, with the 21-year-old forward set to cost up to £55m it poses the question of how a financially stricken Barca will balance the books.

Madrid-based outlet Marca has reported that a string of players could leave as they’re not in manager, Xavi’s plans for the future. The list includes Samuel Umtiti, Philippe Coutinho, Yusuf Demir, Sergino Dest and Luuk de Jong.

It looks like Ferran will be the first domino to fall in a transfer free for all.

Our view: You get a Barca player, you get a Barca player – everyone gets a Barca player.

Man City youngster earning rave reviews

City teenager Callum Doyle is on loan at League One side Sunderland and a former Black Cats hero has taken notice.

Former European Golden Shoe winner Phillips told Football Insider: “Let’s not get too carried away.

“He is still a very young lad and is developing. Physically, he will get more muscular as time goes on. Even though he is a big lad, he is still young.

Callum Doyle joined Sunderland on loan during the summer.

The Telegraph reported that 22 scouts went to watch the youngster during Sunderland’s 4-0 win against Crewe Alexandra in October and Phillips said it was to be expected.

“I’m not surprised scouts are looking at him, though. His form doesn’t worry me because he is a young kid. Every player goes through a dip in form.

“I’m sure. I think he’ll be one of their key players between now and the end of the season.”

Our view: Callum is part of an elite generation to have come out of the City Football Academy.

His band of admirers might have grown further after Sunderland swaggered to a 3-0 win at Doncaster Rovers on Monday.

Micah Richards mocks Gary Lineker

It was a nine-goal thriller in a throwback Boxing Day clash at the Etihad Stadium, as a swaggering 4-0 became a dicey 4-3 before City closed out victory to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to six points.

Blues favourite Micah Richards had something to say about the Match Of The Day running order to former Leicester player Gary Lineker. As the goals flew in, he just could not help himself.

Richards asked Lineker on Twitter: “Will Man City be on first tonight? Asking for a friend!!!”. To which Lineker replied with a certain expletive in emoji form.

Our take: Oh Micah, never change.
