MANILA -Power distributor Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has energized a P597-million substation in Taguig City to help power one of the projects of property giant Ayala Land Inc. and ensure reliable supply in nearby areas.
According to Meralco, the gas-insulated switchgear substation was commissioned with an initial capacity of 83 megavolt amperes (MVA) to support the energy requirements of Arca South in Barangay Western Bicutan.
Once it houses three transformer banks, it is slated to have a combined capacity of 249 MVA, equivalent to 249 megawatts, Meralco said on Monday.
“This newly energized smart substation in Arca South Taguig will provide safe, adequate and reliable capacity to serve the existing and future power requirements of this particular Ayala Land development, and the adjacent communities in the area,” said Ronnie Aperocho, Meralco executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Among the establishments that are expected to benefit from the substation are Taguig-Pateros District Hospital and Technological University of the Philippines-Taguig, Meralco noted.
The distributor added that the facility would also help improve voltage regulation, provide operational switching flexibility during contingencies and reduce system loss in the area.
Arca South is a 74-hectare integrated mixed-use development built on a portion of the former Food Terminal Inc. It houses Ayala Land’s residential brands Ayala Land Premier, Alveo and Avida.
