MEET the 23-year-old jockey who’s already earned £2.5million and drives a Mercedes-Benz.

It’s fair to say life is looking good for Leah Kilner.

The promising Australian rider has enjoyed a blistering start to 2022, pulling off a three-timer at Doomben racecourse earlier this month.

At the time of writing she already has 192 career wins tucked under her belt.

But she’s just getting started.

Leah rides out frequently for her dad and former top jockey Greg.

And although they work well together now – including landing a father-and-daughter winner at Doomben last month – Leah has spoken of how she had to rebel against her old man to get her big break.

Speaking of her desire to be a jockey, Leah said: “I never started trackwork until I was 18 because Dad never really wanted me to do it.

“But when I turned 18 I remember walking up to Dad and I said, ‘I think you need to give me a go, or I’ll go somewhere else’.

“So he probably had no choice!”

The pair have forged a lucrative partnership on the track, although dad Greg is keen to keep her feet firmly on the ground.

After their most recent winner, Greg was asked how it felt teaming up with his girl to take home the spoils.

Pulling no punches at all, he answered: “It was pretty special.

“It’s probably not the biggest thrill I had in racing though.

“I trained a 100-1 shot in Sydney once, that was a big thrill.”

Ask Leah and it’s more than likely her biggest thrill so far has come aboard money-making filly Glorious Ruby.

The duo landed successive wins this time last year, pocketing more than £120,000 in the space of a fortnight.

Speaking of their bond, Leah said: “She is one of my favourites, it is hard to go past her.

“She holds a very special spot in my heart. I’ve ridden Group One horses in trackwork in Sydney and I’ve won on the likes of Emerald Kingdom.

“Just to sit on those horses is fantastic, but she holds a very special spot.

“She was my first Saturday winner, she has won me £66,000 races… she even helped me buy a new Mercedes-Benz!”

Seems like Leah was born for life in the fast lane – in more ways than one.
