Magic vs. Raptors picks and odds: Expect Toronto to cover at home

After a rough two-game road trip through New Orleans and Brooklyn, the Toronto Raptors are back at home hosting the Orlando Magic.

The pregame narrative: Toronto is rightfully favoured by a solid margin in a game where points could be at a premium. That’s especially true for the Magic, who can’t get anything going on offence.

Magic vs. Raptors picks

Best Bet : Raptors -10.5 (-107)

After two uninspiring losses on the road, this might look like a big spread for the Raptors to cover.

Toronto has been excellent at home, though, and the team is getting healthy with only Otto Porter Jr. unavailable for this game.

Perhaps more importantly, the Magic team they’re facing has been absolutely brutal this season. Orlando is 9-13-1 ATS to go along with an ugly 5-18 overall record. This club has been especially bad on the road, going 1-10 with a horrendous -9.0 net rating.

Not only do the season-long numbers paint a grim picture of the Magic, the team’s recent results have been even worse as they’ve gone 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games.

Orlando has also lost by at least 11 points in four of its last six games and posted a minus-94 point differential during that span.

Even the return of Paolo Banchero on November 25 has done little to improve its fortunes, and we expect Toronto to roll in this soft matchup.

The Raptors have only played three games against teams with a winning percentage below .400 this season, but they’ve gone 3-0 with a plus-54 point differential.

Key stat: Toronto is 7-3 ATS at home this season and 8-2 overall.

Quick picks

Magic under 103.5 points (-114): This line doesn’t ask much of Orlando, but the young squad is the second-worst scoring offence in the NBA. It’s also facing a top-10 defence in the second half of a back-to-back — on the road no less.

Not only is that a brutal situation for an already-anemic offence to be in, but the Magic have been especially incompetent lately, hitting this under in five of their last six games.

Under 218 points (-110): This is a relatively low line, but it suits two teams that are significantly better on defence than offence.

Team Points per game rank Points against per game rank
Raptors 20th 7th
Magic 29th 18th

Add in Orlando’s brutal offensive form of late, and the tired legs factor with both teams playing the second leg of a back-to-back, and you don’t have a good recipe for a high points total.

Both teams have seen three of their last five games hit this under.
