Kerry Katona has opened up about a health scare earlier in the year after finding she had a lump in her armpit.

The former Atomic Kitten star, 41, opened up about her fears the lump could be something serious like cancer when she spotted it underneath her arm.

Kerry wrote in her New! magazine column: ‘I went to the doctors about a lump in my armpit earlier this year after I noticed it while I was on a photoshoot.

‘It ended up just being a lymph node, but I did really fear the worst. When you have a health scare, your life can be taken out of your hands in a split second.’

The lump had initially been spotted by a fan when Kerry posted a photo of herself with her arm in the air and urged her to get it checked.

Kerry revealed on Steph’s Packed Lunch in February: ‘In that time my right breast had swollen to about five times bigger than my left. I had surgery about a year and a half before on my breast, and everything was fine.

‘I kept getting an achey feeling in my breast, it was so painful, I knew, something’s not right.

‘When I found the lump I did the worst thing I could possibly do, I went on Google, and it showed the lump and the swelling, the difference in my breast was so dramatic.’

She revealed that the lymph node had been damaged during surgery, which she then decided to leave for the time being as it was harmless.

Kerry had urged her followers to get themselves checked out amid the pandemic if they found anything unusual on their own bodies, adding: ‘If you find anything like that, the stress and the worry of not knowing can sometimes be more damaging. Especially if it’s benign.

‘You’re better off going to get it sorted, get it tested and find out. Nobody is going to get themselves checked, that’s why I’m here to talk about it because I think it’s important.

‘Despite the pandemic and Covid, if you find any kind of lump or anything you aren’t sure of… I didn’t want to be a burden to the NHS.

‘I had to go in on my own, it was the most horrific, scariest moment of my life.’
