I’m a flight attendant and here’s how to always get your meals first on planes

A FLIGHT attendant has revealed how she always gets her food first whenever she flies – and how to make herself much more comfortable on planes.

There’s nothing worse than sitting near the back of the plane, watching everyone in front of you get their meals first. But there is a way to skip the lunch line, even on board a plane.

Caroline Kneitz worked as a flight attendant for Emirates for more than six years and picked up a couple of tricks in her time for making her flights more enjoyable.

One of them is a tactic for getting meals before anyone else on board the aircraft.

She revealed that those who order special meals will always be served first, so that meal services will run smoother.

She told Mail Online: “If you’re sticking to plane food and want your food served early, then all you need to do is order a special meal such as vegan or Kosher.

“Special meals, which have to pre-ordered in advance, are always dished out first. If you’re on a night flight getting your meal earlier is particularly useful as you can get to sleep quicker.”

Caroline also revealed a hack passengers can do with a pillow to help them fall asleep in uncomfortable plane seats.

She said that bringing a pillow case from home is all that is needed.

She added: “If you want a premium experience, bring a full-size pillow case and stuff it with extra airline pillows or blankets to make one big pillow. This really does offer ultimate comfort and one of my favourite hacks.”

Pillow cases can also be used to get extra hand luggage on board planes.

Anya Iakovlieva, who goes by the handle @nolimitua on TikTok, managed to smuggle a number of extra items with her on the plane by using an empty pillowcase.

She filmed herself stuffing the case with a load of clothes, then placing it on top of her suitcase.

Presumably, the cabin crew checking passengers on board assumed the pillowcase was going to be used as a sleeping aid, as Anya then showed a clip of herself hugging the pillow on the flight.

It may seem sneaky, but some flight attendants aren’t really bothered at all if passengers try and sneak a bit of extra luggage on without paying for it.

Sun Online Travel’s resident cabin crew blogger told us: “We’ve seen the videos on Tiktok, with people hiding bags up their jumpers to make themselves look pregnant, or stuffing clothes into pillow cases.

“All of them show people just trying to take more items on holiday without having to pay for excess baggage and believe me, we’ve seen them all.

“Chances are, we probably even saw those people doing it at the airport, but just didn’t care enough to do much about it.

“Personally, I’ve been inspired – I’m all about saving money wherever I can.

“Even as flight attendants, we have to ask our manager if we want to bring any extras on board, so I totally sympathise.

“The only thing I would ask for anyone thinking of trying to get away without having to pay for excess baggage, is to still scan everything at security.

“As long as a bag has been checked by the scanners, I’m fine with it being on the plane, whether it’s been paid for or not.”

Meanwhile, another Tiktok user has gone viral for revealing a free way to take extra items on a plane.

Here’s why you should always take a picture of your luggage before you get on a plane, according to a frequent flyer.
