CCTV footage then captures Chevelleau getting on a bus to Shudehill before walking over to the Arndale centre.

The moment he purchased the knife

He is captured making his way to the toilets inside, where he disposed of the knife packaging.

Footage then shows Chevelleau heading towards the main mall in the Arndale where he carried out his horrific attack.

After knifing his victims, he is then seen running through the shopping centre before he throws the weapon into a bin at the bottom of the Arndale steps.

Shoppers were captured fleeing the scene in terror

Shoppers can be seen watching him as he runs away.

They were then captured running out of the shopping centre exits in terror.

Some were captured pushing prams as they ran out the Arndale to safety.

Chevelleau was then quickly apprehended by officers nearby and footage captured him holding his hands up for officers as he sat on the floor in the street.

He is then told to turn over on to his chest while handcuffs are placed on him, then police bodycam footage shows him being put into a van after he was arrested.

Prosecutor, Andrew Ford QC told the court on Friday: “All of these offences were committed on Friday October 11 2019.

“Mr Chevelleau who is now 41 was living alone in a flat on Rochdale Road in Blackley.

“At 10.40am he went into the pound store close to his house and bought a knife for £1.50.

“The shopkeeper described him as calm but upon leaving the shop the defendant ran.

He was caught on CCTV

“He secreted the knife in his coat and got on the bus and arrived in the city centre just after 11.

“He entered the Arndale and then entered a private changing baby area.

“Packaging from a knife was found in a bin. He left the baby change area and did a loop of the Arndale Centre.

“He broke into a run wielding the knife and randomly stabbed five members of the public.”

The court heard how as Chevelleau was arrested he said to officers: ‘arrest me you white trash.’

The moment the knifeman was taken down by cops

“He continued to say: ‘I am doing this for my people. It is political. I don’t like blacks, I don’t like whites, I don’t like Asians.”

“When he was at the police station, he said: ‘I was going to stab my ex-girlfriend but I couldn’t be bothered to travel so I took it out on someone in town. I am guilty as sin.”
