Hawks vs. Raptors prop picks: Back Scottie Barnes and Gary Trent

0

The Toronto Raptors carry a three-game winning streak into tonight’s contest against the Atlanta Hawks.

The pregame narrative: Scottie Barnes has been producing in 2023 and he should have ample opportunities to score and distribute against Atlanta’s poor interior defence. We’re also backing Gary Trent’s 3-point prop.

Here are our Hawks vs. Raptors prop picks for January 14.

Odds as of 9:55 a.m. on 01/14/2023.

Hawks vs. Raptors prop picks

Best Bet : Barnes over 14.5 points (-113)

Barnes has been enjoying a productive month and we’re expecting that to continue against a short-handed Hawks team on no rest.

Last year’s Rookie of the Year has cleared this mark in four of Toronto’s six games since the calendar turned and is averaging 16.5 points in those contests. He also dropped 28 and 21 points respectively the last two times Toronto played Atlanta this season.

And that was with Clint Capela playing — the Hawks’ centre has been injured since mid-December and their defence has been in disarray since then.

Atlanta is allowing 119.5 points with him out of the lineup this season and a lot of that damage has come from in the paint.

Since December 15th, 38.2% of the Hawks’ opponent FG attempts have occurred within four feet of the basket (second-worst in NBA), according to Cleaning the Glass. That’s where over a third (36%) of Barnes looks come from, too.

Key stat: Barnes averaged 24.5 PPG against the Hawks this season.

Quick picks

Barnes over 4.5 assists (-120): For as good as Barnes has been putting the ball in the basket, he’s been even better distributing it. The 21-year-old is averaging six assists per game in January and has cleared this mark in four of those six games.

He’s coming off a nine-assist game against the Charlotte Hornets and he had seven in the contest before that.

Expect him to keep dishing against a Hawks team that allows the 11th-most helpers per game.

Trent over 2.5 threes (-105): Trent shot an awful 2 for 11 from behind the arc on Thursday against the Hornets but that’s not going to dissuade us from tailing him tonight.

The volume is there — Trent is averaging 9.2 attempts from deep this month — and he has also cleared this mark in four of Toronto’s six games in January.
