Emotional moment Christian Eriksen plays with son on pitch and waves goodbye to Brentford fans after last game of season
CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN enjoyed the perfect end to his season after his emotional comeback to the football pitch.
Brentford might have lost 2-1 at home to Leeds, but for the Danish midfielder, 30, it completed one of sport’s most heart-warming comebacks.
In June 2021, Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland after suffering a cardiac arrest in horror scenes in Copenhagen.
He needed 13 minutes of intense medical treatment – including CPR and defibrillator shocks – with doctors later revealing Eriksen was “gone” before starting resuscitation.
The former Tottenham ace was fitted with an automated external defibrillator (AED) – meaning he was no longer allowed to play for Inter Milan due to Serie A rules.
In January, Brentford took a chance on Eriksen – tying him down until the end of the season.

The attacking midfielder played in 11 Premier League games and even returned to Denmark duty – scoring against Holland in a friendly in March.
He scored just days later in the Bees’ shock 4-1 win at Chelsea.
Despite his heart scare, Eriksen came back to the pitch in incredible manner.
And now the midfielder is being chased by a host of top European sides, including Manchester United and Spurs, this summer.
Brentford have not officially released Eriksen as they confirmed they are holding contract talks that would see him stay at the club.
But on Sunday, following the final-day clash at home to Leeds, Eriksen appeared to say farewell to the Bees faithful.
Eriksen played with his son Alfred, three, on the pitch and waved to supporters.
The midfielder beamed up at the stands as he was flanked by long-term girlfriend Sabrina Kvist and their one-year-old daughter.
He later even headed into the stands to meet – and pose for selfies with – fans.
For Kvist, too, the day must have felt a world away from the distressing scenes of last June.
That day, Denmark captain Simon Kjaer ordered his team-mates to form a protective ring around Eriksen as he was brought back to life by medics.
Kjaer then rushed over to Kvist to comfort her in her time of need.
Eriksen’s future may not be certain yet. It could be at Brentford, it could be back at Tottenham or even under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

But Eriksen could be tempted to stay put under Thomas Frank with his fellow Dane leading Brentford to an admirable 11th-placed finish in their first-ever Premier League season.
In fact, the Bees were closer to the European places than the relegation zone in terms of points and even beat Arsenal and Chelsea, while drawing with Liverpool, in 2021-22.
