The closure will affects hundreds of thousands planning an Easter getaway because Euston, based in Camden, North London, is Britain’s fifth busiest station and the busiest inter-city railway.

It connects the capital to the West Midlands, North West England, North Wales and Scotland.

Southern and Gatwick Express trains are also all cancelled through London Victoria, Britain’s third busiest station, this weekend.

No Southern trains will run from London to Brighton on Saturday while the Victoria to Brighton line will start from Gatwick on Sunday.

Passengers travelling from London must take a Thameslink train from London Blackfriars or London Bridge.

Train firms Thameslink and Northern will also be running revised timetables over the Bank Holiday weekend.

And 20.8million drivers are expected to get behind the wheel from Friday to Sunday.

Saturday is set to be the busiest with 5.6million drivers getting on the roads, the RAC suggested.

And the motoring firm recommended avoiding the M25 clockwise from J8 to J16 all weekend, as well as the A303 at Stonehenge.

The quietest road times will be after 8pm on Friday and after 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Busy times include 11am-7pm on Friday, 10am-3pm on Saturday and 10am-3pm on Sunday.

Spokesman Rod Dennis added: “We’re expecting to see two big waves of Easter holiday traffic over the next few weeks – one this coming weekend as many schools break up, and other the following one which coincides with the bank holiday and a long weekend for a lot of people.

“With many people likely to be travelling longer distances than they have for several months, reducing the chance of their cars letting them down is more important than ever.

“Checking oil and coolant levels, as well as tyre pressure and tread depth, can drastically reduce the chances of a breakdown.

“We’d urge every driver planning a trip in the coming days to put aside some time to do this – it could make the difference between a straightforward trip or one stuck at the side of the road.”

It comes after Brits were warned of long airport queues over Easter due to staff shortages.

Airport Operators’ Association CEO Karen Dee said: “Airports have been preparing for this for some time, but at peak times passengers may not have the experience they are used to.

“Airports are working hard to recruit more staff in a very competitive labour market and are working with the UK government to resolve any delays in the necessary checks before staff can start work.”

Shortages emerged after airports and airlines were put under financial pressure from the pandemic, with many staff losing their jobs.

British Airways passengers have experienced a lot of travel chaos in recent weeks due to a series of IT failures.

On Wednesday, more than 40 flights were cancelled due to a technical issue, which had a knock on effect on passengers flying yesterday.
