Dawn Chang stressed that she only bakes cake and does not smear icing on other people’s face, apparently taking a swipe at Alex Gonzaga and her recent icing-smearing fiasco.
Chang spoke about this in the course of addressing the “disappointment” of netizens on her supervillain role in “Mars Ravelo’s Darna: The TV Series,” during a media conference on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Aside from Chang, her fellow “Super Soldiers” actors Paolo Gumabao, Kim Rodriguez, Eric Fructuoso, Simon Ibarra, Mark Manicad, Young JV and Joshua Colet were present at the conference.
“I guess I understand how they feel. They probably feel disappointed [sa character], according do’n sa mga nakasulat, but they have to watch the next episodes para mas maintindihan nila,” she said. (They probably feel disappointed, according to [the comments] they have written, but they have to watch the next episodes to understand [the character].)
Despite some negative feedback, Chang admitted that she was “happy” that her character has already gained attention from the viewers even if she has just been introduced in the show.
Digital creator Eric John Salut, the host of the media conference, then reiterated how the viewers should watch the upcoming “Darna” episodes first before they leave bad comments on Chang’s character, quipping that Chang did not even “smear cake icing” on anyone to draw such reactions.
“Uy, hindi ako namumunas ng icing. Hindi ako gano’n. Gumagawa ako ng cake pero ‘di ako namumunas ng icing sa mukha ng iba,” she said. (Hey, I do not smear icing [on other people]. I am not that [kind of person]. I bake cakes, but I do not smear icing on other people’s face.)
While they did not elaborate on the topic, it can be noted that Gonzaga has been in hot water after she smeared icing on a waiter’s face during her recent birthday party.
Peter Ledesma, the publicist of the Gonzaga family, earlier spoke up on the matter and clarified that the said waiter is a “friend” of the actress’ mom, Pinty Gonzaga. Ledesma also pointed out that the waiter had always joked around with the Gonzaga family since he has been serving them for years. /ra
