Counter-Strike 2 Trademark Suggests New Game in the Works

Counter-Strike has been on the shelves of PC storefronts since 2000, and has seen various updates throughout the past 23 years, including new games and content for one of Valve’s premier titles. The most recent entry, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, has been here for almost 11 years; it’s seen various updates itself.

Previously, we mentioned that Global Offensive recently had Source 2 move to its Pre-Release branch. Interestingly,  within that code, a “Left 4 Dead 3” name was found, and once again, while that is no confirmation a third Left 4 Dead will become a reality, it’s strange to find in a Counter-Strike build nonetheless. Earlier this morning, actually, information surfaced that Valve seemingly filed new trademarks related to Counter-Strike, and of them, Counter-Strike 2 is in the group. Twitter user Aquarius tweeted about this, and you can view that below.

Considering the fact that these trademarks were filed four days ago, the same day our last coverage on Counter-Strike and Source 2, only makes it seem more realistic that Counter-Strike players may see a brand-new entry or massive title update that turns Global Offensive into a brand new game. For now, though, we’ll have to see if this materializes into a new entry, because that hasn’t been confirmed nor denied by Valve just yet. It also begs the question: since Global Offensive is free, and in the event Valve does make a completely new Counter-Strike product as a separate entity to Global Offensive, will it be a paid game?

Strangely enough, a completely new game doesn’t seem to be the case, as Aquarius chimes in again rather recently, tweeting updates to CS: GO’s registry. You can view the new registry changes to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive below.

As it stands now, it seems as though a substantial engine update may be the course of action that Valve winds up taking. That being said, a substantial engine update may either make things run much better, or break several portions of the game that may need patches to fix. When that engine update rolls out to the public, more information will probably be made public.

As for the information that’s presented to us here, we’ll have to sort out what Perfect World and Valve have in store. This story is currently developing, and we’ll provide updates on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s status where available. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is playable exclusively on Steam, and is completely free to play.
