Channel 5 Watercolour Challenge: Fern Britton’s divorce from TV chef and the very famous role she almost beat Amanda Holden to
Fern Britton was once a mainstay of daytime TV fronting This Morning alongside Philip Schofield and a host of other popular shows including Ready Steady Cook and All-Star Mr and Mrs.
The much-loved presenter who graced our screens for 20 years and appeared on Strictly Come Dancing has recently returned to the limelight after 13 years to host Channel 5’s Watercolour Challenge.
Fern, 64, was once part of breakfast TV’s best loved duos presenting the hit ITV show with Philip Schofield for 10 years, the pair also hosted The British Soap Awards before she stepped down in 2009.

Mum-of-four Fern was also host of culinary show, Ready Steady Cook, which she fronted for six years and was married to TV chef Phil Vikery.
After disappearing from our screens Fern recently revealed a challenging few years in her personal life.
The former This Morning star opened up about her split from the TV chef Phil Vickery which happened shortly after the death of her father, actor Tony Britton in December 2019.
Fern also suffered the loss of her mum, Ruth, two years earlier and lost her home as part of the split.
The presenter and her ex husband were married for nearly 20 years before announcing their surprise split in 2020.
In a statement Fern revealed that she would remain good friends with her former flame, and later told fans she had given up their family home in Buckinghamshire.
Phil was set to keep the property while Fern packed her belongings and relocated to Cornwall. The couple share a 20-year-old daughter, Winnie, together.
She has three other children Grace, Harry and Jack with first husband Clive Jones who she married in 1988 and divorced a decade later.
Speaking honestly about her recent troubles Fern told Good Housekeeping:
“The last three years have been very hard; I lost my parents, I lost my marriage. I lost my other home in Buckinghamshire, too, because Phil [Vickery, Fern’s ex-husband] lives there now and I’m in Cornwall,” she says.
“But the magic I’ve found here is incredible. I’ve made some wonderful girlfriends and that’s been a lovely surprise.”
Since taking a break from TV she has found another passion, turning her hand to writing fiction, becoming a bestselling author.
Publisher Harper Collins say that her books, many of which are set in Cornwall where she lives, are cherished for their warmth, wit and wisdom.
Her latest TV return sees her host the Channel 5 show where four amateur artists compete, going from easel to easel to produce paintings which shine.
A TV commissioner also recently revealed that Fern was originally cast as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent instead of Amanda Holden.
The ITV talent show launched in 2007 with Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden as its judges.
