Blue Jays vs. Orioles picks and odds: Back Baltimore to sweep Toronto

The Toronto Blue Jays look to salvage at least one win in their series finale against the Baltimore Orioles.

The pregame narrative: Public enemy No. 1, Rougned Odor, belted a two-run homer in the eighth inning to lift the Orioles past the Blue Jays 6-5. Toronto will send Jose Berrios to the mound while Baltimore counters with Dean Kremer in the final game of the series.

Check out our Blue Jays vs. Orioles picks for August 10.

Blue Jays vs. Orioles picks

Best bet: Orioles moneyline (+135)

Baltimore has been surging up the American League standings and we’re going to roll with the hot home team on Wednesday.

The Orioles have won seven of their last eight contests and are just two games back of the Blue Jays for the top wild-card spot. Their 7-1 start to August comes after a 16-9 July.

A big reason for the team’s success has been the awakening of their bats.

Baltimore ranks first in both OBP (.362) and OPS (.847) in the AL over the last seven days (and ninth in wRC+ since July 1), and has outscored Toronto’s potent offence 13-9 over the first two games of this series.

Toronto has enjoyed success against O’s starter Kremer in the past — the righty has allowed six homers and owns an 11.32 ERA in three career starts vs. the Jays — but he’s been much better in 2022.

The 26-year-old has posted a career-best 3.43 ERA and 1.32 WHIP across 11 games and has cut down both his home run and walk rates considerably from a year ago.

Berrios, who appeared to be rounding into form, was lit up for six hits and five runs across 3.2 innings of work in his last start against the Minnesota Twins. His ERA jumped back to over 5.00 (5.19), which is where it has sat for most of the season.

At plus money, we’re backing Baltimore to pull off the sweep on Wednesday.

Key stat: The Orioles own an impressive 33-21 record at home this season while the Blue Jays are 26-29 on the road.

Quick picks

Over 9 runs (-112): Baltimore has the hottest offence in the AL and Toronto has been one of the most consistent offensive units all year.

The over on this total has hit in two of Berrios’ last three starts and in all six matchups between the Orioles and Blue Jays this season.

Orioles +1.5 (-122): We like Baltimore’s chances of picking up the win so being able to bet the team while getting 1.5 runs on the run line at a reasonable price is another way we’re looking to back the O’s.

Baltimore has covered this number in 12 of its last 15 games and in five of its six meetings against Toronto this season.

Odds as of 8:23 a.m. on 08/10/2022.
