Fringe Australian white-ball star Ben McDermott has sent a timely reminder that he still has what it takes in another T20 World Cup year.
Ben McDermott has crushed a stunning 60-ball 110 not out to guide the Hobart Hurricanes to a crushing win over the Adelaide Strikers.
The Strikers batted first and tonked 5/175 for the 20 overs as Matthew Renshaw smashed 63 off 31 and Jake Weatherald hit 51 off 43.

The pair combined for a 118-run stand and had the commentators believing it might be too difficult a total for the Hurricanes.
It didn’t help that Matthew Wade fell for just six off seven ball and left the Hurricanes facing an early wobble.
But McDermott cruised his way to 50 off 36 balls and then cashed in, thumping his second 50 in just 22 balls.
And just for good measure, McDermott hammered a full toss for six to bring up his hundred.
“You’d go a long way to see a better innings than that from Ben McDermott,” Brad Haddin said on Fox Cricket. “He lost his captain Matty Wade early but what he’s shown tonight is some brute force with eleven fours and five sixes but it’s also come with a touch of class.”
McDermott hammered several of his five sixes out of the ground, which saw young fans scatter to try and nab the souvenir.
But Haddin said McDermott just “won all the big moments” for the Hurricanes.
Incredibly, Hobart claimed the win with nine balls still to come.
McDermott has played white-ball cricket for the Australia, including two ODIs and 17 T20 Internationals but has been unable to cement a position in either side.
Cricket fans were blown away by the rapid knock as McDermott hit his second Big Bash ton.
NRL legend Phil Gould tweeted: “Ben McDermott scores 110 not out. Great innings. Wins game for Hobart Hurricanes.”
Code Sports journalist Adam Peacock wrote: “Brilliant knock of pure hitting from Ben McDermott. Did it earlier in summer in Marsh Cup. Damn good to watch in this mood.”
Chennai Super Kings team manager Russell Radhakrishnan added: “Ben McDermott class player”.
WIN Tasmania’s Brent Costelloe said: “Outstanding Benny McDermott. Absolutely sublime!”
The result vaults the Hurricanes back into the top four as the side claimed its third win of the season.
Already it appears to be a two-horse race as the 6-0 Scorchers and 5-1 Sixers have set a scintillating pace and the third and fourth placings are wide open.
